PA readers welcome street art
A number of PA readers praised Ian Cuthbert Imrie’s street art murals on our Facebook page.
Cheryl Reid said: “These paintings are fantastic, we are lucky to have artists like this in Perth willing to do amazing artwork for us all to appreciate for free. Much better than the street graffiti that was on the walls previously, although each to their own.”
Lynne Crawford Knight said: “I thought they were part of the council’s redevelopment, have been proudly showing them off to impressed visitors.
“They’re fantastic and just what Perth needs. So much for city of culture.”
Susan Johnston said: “If it was Banksy, would the council complain? Artists take on criticism. This artist’s way of painting is expressive, so his work isn’t supposed to be an actual realistic representation of the subject, more of an expression of the attitude and style of the person they are trying the public to see.
“I actually though the war art was very good, but walking my daughter past them she thought they were scary, which is what they are supposed to do.
“So portraits of famous singers have a colourful welcome from me. Why be boring staring at brick walls?
“Might even inspire other artists to use that lane as a public gallery. We are after all aiming to be a city of culture - or was that just a dream?”
Tan Wrigz said: “God forbid Perth should try and inject a bit of art culture. They make a great feature for locals, visitors and tourists.”
Mandy Ross said: “I don’t understand our council at times - there is a world of difference between graffiti and these wonderful pictures that quite frankly, fair brighten up the place. Leave them alone!”
