Looking ahead to the popular Perth Show

- Rachel Clark

Plans for the 156th Perth Show are well under way.

The annual two-day farming and agricultural show will bring crowds to Perth’s South Inch on Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4.

Farmers and organisers of the 2018 show met yesterday at Montalt Farm near Dunning to launch the showcase, which sees the countryside come into the city.

This year, the organising committee say they are going to focus on“farming the next generation”to mark Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018.

All kinds of farm animals will be judged by leading experts in the field, and organisers hope the highlight will be the grand parade of livestock in the main arena of the showground.

There will also be show jumping to enjoy as well, as Perth Show is an official qualifier for the Caledonian Show Jumping Championships near Ladybank.

Perth Show will this year take place on the main South Inch, as the Lesser South Inch - where the show has been held for a number of years - is still too waterlogged after last year’s show.

It will also see the return of the Perthshire on a Plate food festival and cookery theatre, which aims to complete the farm to fork journey for visitors to the farming showcase.

Pictured are Perth Show secretary Neil Forbes, Anna Marshall (8), Polly the Shetland pony, Alix Ritchie from the Royal Highland Education Trust, Ellie Ritchie (6), the show’s chairman John Ritchie, and Millie Ritchie (7) on Montalt Farm.
