Unlucky 13 as thieves raid tents at festival
Phones and cash stolen while revellers were asleep
As thousands enjoyed music in the sunshine last weekend at Rewind Festival, 13 tents were raided by thieves.
The opportunistic thieves went into a number of tents while the occupants lay sleeping during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Thousands had flocked to the festival, held in the grounds of the iconic Scone Palace, to enjoy live music from the likes of Status Quo, Midge Ure and the Boomtown Rats.
A number of mobile phones, as well as cash, were stolen from the tents along between 12.30am and 9am on Saturday, July 21.
The thefts were spread out across a number of the festival ground’s campsites, but police officers investigating the case believe they are linked.
A spokesperson for the police force said: “A total of 13 tents had mobile phones or quantities of cash stolen from within them - six in the blue campsite, two in the yellow campsite, three in the red campsite and one in the admission campsite area.
“All of these tents had the items taken while the occupants were asleep within their tents. As all of these thefts have been similar in style and in the items stolen, we believe there is a good chance they are linked.”
The spokesperson continued: Revellers staying in the campsite at Rewind had their tents raided “Given the nature of event campsites, it would be difficult to say that anyone seen going between tents would be acting in a suspicious manner. However, there is a possibility that other tents were entered and the occupants disturbed, which would have caused the thief/ thieves to be seen by those occupiers.
“If you have any information that could assist our enquiries, in particular if you disturbed someone you didn’t know in your tent or in someone else’s, please call 101 or speak with any police officer.”
Despite the thefts, Chief Inspector Ian Scott said the crowd had been well behaved over the weekend.
He said: “I welcome the notes of thanks that we have received since the weekend praising the officers working at the event.
“It is an event that usually allows for a high level of positive interaction between the police and the public and it is great to see that this continues year after year.”
Anyone with information on the thefts can contact the police on 101. Alternatively witnesses can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or at crimestoppersuk.org
