Drunk threw micro after being locked in

- Court reporter

A Perth woman locked her drunken partner in their flat after he wanted to leave at 2am to get more alcohol.

And when he couldn’t find the key, 54-year-old Brian Montgomery grabbed a microwave oven from the wall and hurled it across the living room.

It struck a window, leaving Lee-Ann Craik “terrified and screaming,” Perth Sheriff Court was told.

His violent behaviour wasn’t over, and he picked up the micro and launched it against a door while shouting:“Let me out you f***ing b ***** d.”

A neighbour was disturbed by the 2am mayhem and called the police.

When police arrived they could see signs of the disturbance and Montgomery, of Morris Court, was arrested.

He admitted shouting and swearing at his his partner - and then throwing the microwave in their home on February 17 this year.

Depute fiscal Carol Whyte told the court they had been in a relationship for two years and living together for 12 months.

They had both been drinking alcohol together that evening and she thought he was“quite drunk.”

He wanted to go out for more drink but she wanted him to stay as he was working the following day.

He“became aggressive”after she locked the door.

Solicitor Linda Clark described his behaviour as“unacceptable.”

The relationship still continued, she added.

After noting that a background report described the accused’s relationship with alcohol as“difficult”, Sheriff William Wood fined him £630, payable at £10 a week.

“You need to be aware what the dangers are, particularly in a domestic situation,”added the sheriff.

“Inhibitions are lowered when alcohol is involved.”
