Award for Perth College lecturer
A Perth computing lecturer has been recognised with a top award.
June Schulte, who teaches computer science at Perth College UHI, won the best assessment feedback award in the Highlands and Islands Students’ Association (HISA) awards.
The awards thank both academic and support staff who have inspired and supported students at the college.
A panel of students judged the awards, with nominations flooding in from its 13 campuses across the Highlands and islands.
Margaret Cook, principal and chief executive of Perth College UHI, praised the Perth teacher.
She said:“Congratulations to June Schulte on her achievement. It speaks volumes that so many of our students have taken the time to formally recognise the dedication of the staff at Perth College UHI and across the partnership.”
Alan Simpson, president of the university’s students’association, added: “The HISA awards are an opportunity to recognise and thank individuals who have made a valuable contribution to students’ learning experience.
“This year we received nominations from every academic partner for the first time and recorded a record number of 428 nominations, over 100 more than last year.
“The level of interaction with the awards speaks to the high regard our students have for their lecturers, tutors, support staff and peers, and the great work that’s happening across the University of the Highlands and Islands.”
Dr Ian Morrison, dean of students at the university, said awards handed out by students are often the best reflection of someone’s teaching ability.
He said:“You cannot fool students – they are the experts in their own learning and can astutely and quickly identify staff who know what they are doing.
“The fact that a record number of university staff were nominated for these awards, by a record number of students, is testimony to the high quality of our lecturers, support staff and student representatives across the entire organisation.
“We are very proud of our colleagues and to have so many student recognise their hard work, commitment and expertise means that they are also appreciated by the people about whom they care most at work - their students.”
