Don’t blame grass for sexual assaults

-

On the back of your recent report on the overgrown grass in the Craigie area in the Friday, July 20, edition of the PA, I wish to remind you that overgrown grass areas are not the cause of sexual assault and merely one of many locations chosen by the predators who choose to sexually assault their victims.

This reported statement is tone-deaf in today’s society.

Whilst I deeply sympathise with the woman who had those comments made to her, the issue remains that those who sexually assault are the problem in our society and not, as suggested, the overgrown grass in the area.

Yes, the area is most likely a hazard and those circumstances must be addressed but please do not blame an environment for those who make a conscious decision to sexually assault anybody. Holly Scrimgeour, Stanley

Poeticmemories

The Lapwing too, are on their guard,

Over their territory you are barred.

Mainly over fields and quiet roadside,

Where their young, are small enough to hide.

The Oystercatcher, with bright yellow beak,

Food for their young, they come to seek.

Sleek, feathered coats in black and white,

Conspicuous to the eye, when in flight.

Yellowhammers, chaffinches, blackbirds and others,

Flying in pairs, males escorting mothers.

Bustling, busy birds, so full of care,

With crystal clear notes, their songs they share. Mary Sutherland, Perth
