Teams pay their respects to Sean Footballtournament

- Douglas Dickie

Sean Wallace Friends and family once again got together to remember a football-daft Perth teenager whose life was tragically cut short.

Sean Wallace passed away in November 2012, leaving his friends and family devastated.

Each year they have got together at McDiarmid Park for a football event in memory of the former Perth Academy pupil.

Eight teams turned out earlier this month to do battle on the field of play and to pay their respects to Sean.

The event, the sixth that has been held since Sean’s death, raised £520 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

Sean’s mum and dad, David and Michelle, were there to watch a competitive contest played in good spirts.

In the final Dream Team defeated Zenit St Johnstoun 3-1 on penalties after a hard fought final ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sean played regularly with the St Johnstone fans’ team PSJ, Luncarty and Abernethy, all of whom were represented on the day.

His dad David told the PA the event is always “bittersweet”.

But he added: “We have been lucky in that we have had so much support from Sean’s friends and that is what keeps the tournament going.

“We’ve always been pleased with the support from St Johnstone for the use of the ground. They are a big help and make it easier for us.

“A lot of the teams that are represented Sean actually played for.”
