Perth Doo’cot resolved their recent batting problems but failed to record a victory against Mannofield at the weekend.

Kash Khalil’s side came up against an opponent too good on the day, eventually losing by six wickets in a high-scoring fixture.

The defeat in Aberdeen keeps Perth in the lower half of the table with five weeks of the season left.

Skipper Khalil won the toss and opted to bat on the usual batsmanfriendly Mannofield wicket.

For once, the Perth batsmen took advantage and batted the full 45 overs to amass a healthy total of 237-9.

Khalil led the way with 61 supported by Asif Naeem with 47 and Tyler Ridder with 33.

Mannofield paced their response well and despite the loss of four wickets, they were always up with the required run rate of five an over.

As the Perth bowlers and fielders tired, Haddon and Proud accelerated in the last 10 overs to secure an ultimately comfortable six wicket win.

Khalil will be hoping that the return to form with the bat is a good sign for the remaining month of the league campaign.

The second XI, meanwhile, sit comfortably in the top half of the SPCU Division One after a four wicket win against local rivals Rossie Priory.

The visitors batted first and scored 178 for seven with Davis 55 and McLelland 66 the main contributors.

Jack Emslie continued his progress with the ball taking two for 10.

When Perth sat on 58 for six in reply, Rossie would have felt confident of victory.

Enter Jamal Ali who smashed his way to 113 not out in a partnership of 122 with Jonathan Hill as Perth reached their total with just under seven overs left.

On Sunday, the second XI relinquished their hold on the 2 Counties cup losing the final to Stoneywood Dyce.

Perth’s total of 99-9 in 20 overs always looked light and the visitors reached their total with five overs left.

This weekend sees Gordonians visit Doo’cot while the second XI travel to play St Modans.

On Sunday, the third XI entertain Alloa XI.
