The St Johnstone full-back worked hard in the build-up to pre-season and has started this campaign with a spring in his step.

Tanser looked comfortable throughout as the Perth side topped Betfred Cup Group B on Tuesday night with a home win against Falkirk.

Stefan Scougall’s clever first half goal was enough to separate the teams.

“First half I thought we started really sharp and played the ball around as we should be doing,” Tanser said. “Our pitch is looking superb.

“When I first came back for pre-season I felt really good. As soon as we got into the testing and training, I felt really sharp and I think that is showing in my performances.

“The friendlies were working on the fitness and trying to put our pre-season into games. Now we need to carry on what we’ve been doing.

“I’m really looking forward to the season and I’m really enjoying it at the moment. Like last season, I’m over the moon to be at the club.”

Perth boss Tommy Wright’s mission to keep the ball on the deck was evident in Tuesday’s contest.

But, certainly in the opening stages, the final ball or finishing touch was absent as both teams battled for supremacy.

Liam Craig did ping a diagonal switch in the direction of Tony Watt who was making his McDiarmid Park debut.
