A Perth woman, caught driving a car in the early hours while more than three times the legal booze limit, was banned for 20 months at Perth Sheriff Court.

Twenty-seven-year-old Louise Burden, of Brahan Terrace, will also have to re-sit the extended driving test as the incident took place within two years of her passing her test.

In addition, a £600 fine was imposed after she admitted driving with excess alcohol on her breath in Tweedsmuir Road, Perth, on May 13.

Her reading was 77 microgrammes – in excess of the legal limit of 22.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a second charge of failing, without reasonable excuse, to co-operate with a preliminary breath test.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said a householder heard a“loud noise”outside and saw a vehicle had collided with another car.

The accused was seen by various witnesses beside her car and was “distressed and crying”.

Police were called and she admitted she had been the driver.

Solicitor Billy Somerville said the car belonged to her father and his insurance had covered the cost of the damage.

Noting that Burden had only passed her test on on September 20, 2016, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis ordered her take the extended driving test before she can get back behind the wheel.

The fine will be paid at the rate of £10 a week.
