Live music venue has top bands to draw you north

There are several recommende­d live music sessions planned at Food in the Park, Blair Atholl - well worth making a trip for during the next four weekends.

On Saturday, August 4 at 8pm, Glasgow’s Jericho Hill will be playing a full set of Johnny Cash hits, including songs from the Rick Rubin era.

The band play regularly at McChuills and other top venues in Glasgow, and are now playing across the country, building a reputation as a quality and entertaini­ng act.

The following weekend, Scottish folk ceilidh band Schiehalli­on are up, playing a fiery gig on August 10 at 8pm.

If you’ve ever seen these guys play live, then you’ll be back for more. Schiehalli­on are a must-see, live music act.

Their ability to engage and transfix their audience time after time has justifiabl­y led to their richly deserved status as one of Scotland’s top bands in their musical category and genre. Tickets £4.

The next of the August bookings in Blair Atholl is the following evening, Saturday 11, 8pm, when Session A9’s Charlie Mckerron and Marc Clement perform.

Charlie Mckerron (Capercaill­ie/ Session A9) was recently described as a “wonderful, high octane fiddle player and composer”, and when he gets together with singer/guitarist Marc Clement (Session A9) there is always a joyous celebratio­n of music.

“Their love of Scottish traditiona­l music is always on display at every concert they do and tonight’s gig will be no exception,” explained FITPLive’s promoter, Sally Judd.

“The two artists compliment each other perfectly for an engaging, powerful and foot-tapping feast of music.” Tickets £4 on the door or in advance. Other bands on in August will be Last Orders (03/08), AbFab (17/08), Boogalusa (18/08), Red Pine Timber Company (24/08), and Revival Blues (25/08). These will all be free entry. The pop-up summer music venue has everything in place for a great night out: unde the cover of a large marquee the bar is open until 12.30am, there’s food all ngiht, free parking and children are welcome until 11pm.
