- Rachel Clark

Hundreds turned out to enjoy the best Americana music on offer at this year’s Southern Fried Festival.

The curtain has closed on another successful year of Southern Fried, which ran from Thursday, July 26 until Sunday, July 29.

This year, the festival saw big names performing on stage, as well as late clubs at the Salutation Hotel, open mic sessions, an acoustic stage and in conversation chats with artists at John Ross Hi-Fi on Charlotte Street.

The Perth crowd enjoyed music from three-time Grammy award winner Steve Earle, Houston country legend Rodney Crowell, Nashville Songwriters’ Hall of Fame member Gretchen Peters, and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Graham Nash.

And some local bands showed how good Scottish Americana music is, with Perth names such as Longstay, Bohemian Monk Machine and the Red Pine Timber Company taking to the stage.
