Help for horse rider after fall

-

Another busy week has seen Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) take to the air in response to nine separate emergencies across Scotland.

A horse rider was grateful to SCAA when he required airlifting from the Peebles area following a fall.

The man was flown to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with shoulder and arm injuries.

SCAA worked with search and rescue and Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues to rescue a teenage girl suffering an asthma attack on Ben Lawers.

The girl was airlifted from the slopes by a search and rescue helicopter, collected from the lower car park by SCAA and flown to Ninewells Hospital at Dundee.

Local farmworkers helped bring another patient across the hillside to a waiting SCAA helicopter at the weekend.

The man sustained pelvic injuries in a fall on the hills above Aberfeldy. An SAS land crew stabilised the patient as SCAA flew to the scene, airlifting him on to advanced treatment at Ninewells Hospital.

SCAA also flew to the aid of a man on Rothesay who suffered a heart attack and needed an emergency air transfer to a mainland hospital.

SCAA flew the patient to the Golden Jubilee Hospital at Clydebank, ensuring he reached critical care in the fastest possible time.

The charity air ambulance also helped turn a potential road journey of hours into just minutes by air when they were called to a medical emergency at Campbeltown. SCAA airlifted the patient to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital at Glasgow.

Another medical emergency involving the second asthma patient of the week took SCAA to Lochgilphead. They airlifted her to the Royal Alexandra Hospital at Paisley for further treatment.

Later that same day, the rapid response crew flew to Kinloch Rannoch where they landed in a field next to the local GP surgery to attend a heart attack patient.

SCAA paramedics worked with the local BASICS doctor and local ambulance crew before airlifting the man to Ninewells Hospital.

*** Local fundraisers and supporters have been undertaking a variety of challenges recently to raise money for SCAA.

An Errol woman took to the road with a friend as part of the ‘Rust To Rome’ banger rally. The duo spent 10 nights travelling in their banger from Edinburgh to the Italian capital and raised a magnificent £1920 for SCAA.

Thanks also to Aberuthven-based Hadden Construction staff who abseiled from the Forth Bridge recently and dropped in a skyhigh £2122 to SCAA.

The intrepid abseilers took the plunge as part of Hadden Construction’s ongoing two-year support of the air ambulance charity. To date the support partnership has secured £15,102 for SCAA.

Perthshire-based motorcycle club, Keltic Wings Scotland, has driven in with a £121.39 donation for SCAA following a recent club event held at Balloch.

And four members of Sainsbury’s Local in Perth’s High Street are striding out for SCAA by taking part in the Edinburgh Kilt Walk on September 16 as part of the store’s year long support of the charity.

Thanks also to everyone popping their change into the SCAA collection box at the Riverbank Cafe in Pitlochry which spilled out £59.97 when emptied this week.
