Visitors to the reminiscence workshop are encouraged to bring along their own objects for discussion An inter-generational event at Perth Museum and Art Gallery will bring parents, grandparents and young people together for storytelling, object-making and the opportunity to record their memories with video.
‘Object Lesson - Reminiscence Workshop’will explore the importance of personal archives and their role in storytelling using examples from Perth Museum’s archives.
Families are invited to bring their own objects and chat about them at this free event on Saturday, August 4. They can take part in creative writing and get their hands dirty sculpting a whole new object from clay.
This workshop is delivered as part of artist Morwenna Kearsley’s year-long residency at PMAG which will culminate in the film,‘CIVES GRATI!’ The film focuses on the museum as a site to consider hierarchy, power and authenticity, and attempts to highlight the various voices present in the museum through the collection and curation process. As part of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to make a mini-film of themselves and personal objects in the museum.
Rhona Rodger, senior officer of collection management with Culture Perth and Kinross, who run the region’s museums and galleries, said:“This free event is a chance to celebrate creativity and families - both something at which our museums excel.
“It’s a wonderful way to get interactive, learn a bit more about our museum collections, and also to understand more about the importance of personal objects to family history.”
