St Serf’s Church The Rev Michael Archibald led last week’s joint service with Methven church. Denis Scott was the reader and the flowers were kindly donated by Audrey Michie. The organist was Lewis McGoldrick from Abernyte. This Sunday’s service the congregati­on will welcome student, Craig Dobney, from Perth Kinnoull Church who will lead the service at the usual time of 10am. Fete The annual summer fete and duck race takes place on Saturday, August 11, from noon to 2pm in the church grounds. There will be a barbecue plus all the usual stalls. Strawberry teas will be served in the church hall. Donations for any of the stalls would be gratefully received in the church from 2pm to 4pm on Friday, August 10, prior to the event. Angus Minstrels Anyone wishing to attend the matinee performanc­e on Saturday, November 10, in Arbroath is asked to leave their name on the list which can be found at the rear of the church no later than August 12. Please invite family and friends to enjoy this great show. Yoga The new term of yoga begins on Thursday, August 9, in Pitcairngr­een village hall, from 4pm to 5.30pm. New members will be made welcome. Men and women of all abilities are catered for and beginners are especially welcome. Church Morning worship last Sunday took place at 11am and was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. On Sunday this week, the service will be held at 11am and an evening service will take place from 6pm. Refreshmen­ts will be served after the services during August. The Sunday school remains closed during the summer holidays. A creche for those under the age of three is available during every Sunday morning service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Family history Alyth family history project is open on Sunday afternoons, from 2pm to 4pm in Alyth Parish Church. The project includes thousands of photograph­s of people, events, schools, businesses, weddings, children, views, etc. Admission is free. Blackwater

Hall committee The annual barbecue and roasts night will be held this Saturday, August 4, at the Blackwater Hall from 7.30pm. A licensed bar and raffle will be provided on the night. Burrelton

Church Last Sunday’s morning worship was led by Rev Dr Hugh Ormiston, with Moira Ormiston as organist. Ruth McLean read from Two Kings chapter four, verses 42-42 and from the gospel of Mark chapter six, verses 34-52. Office bearers on duty were Ishbel Chambers, Susan Christie and Sandy Duthie. Flowers were provided by Gladys Laing and teas and coffees were served by Aileen Riches. Guilds Together takes place from 7pm on Thursday, August 16, in Perth’s North Church hall. Anyone requiring transport can contact Sheena on 01828 627773. The church is holding a book stall at Burrelton’s Market on the Green on August 25. Donations of books can be handed to any church member. Community cafe The community cafe will reopen on Tuesday, September 11, from noon until 1.30pm. Anyone wishing to join the rota should contact Aileen on 07769 264952. The cafe is open every Tuesday in the church hall. There is no charge made for tea, coffee or home baking. Coupar Angus

Charity shop Sheila and Allan Legge, with Margaret Taylor, are holding the annual charity shop from August 5-11. Donations can be handed in this Sunday, August 5. Collection­s can be arranged by calling Allan on 01828 628886. Proceeds from the shop will go towards the group’s Christmas meal and May outing. Church Last Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Andy Graham. The theme of the service was love and how this can affect change. In his opening prayer the minister reminded those gathered that God was with them wherever they go and asked God to accept them however they are and help them to change for the better. The first hymn was ‘Spirit of Love’. Mr Graham then told the children a story and explained that love was more important than money. The congregati­on then sang ‘Yes Jesus Loves Me’. Readings at the Abbey were taken from Hosea chapter two, verses 14-23 and John chapter 15, verses 1-17. Hosea’s story was from a time when the Israelites were unfaithful to God. The minister explained that in the passage from Hosea “the unfaithful wife” represente­d the people of God and the forgiving father was God. John told how Jesus likened people to branches on a vine which cannot bear fruit unless attached to the vine. Verse 12 has the strong message: “My commandmen­t is this, love one another,

Kinclaven

Church Last Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Peggy EwartRober­ts and Rev Bill Ewart. Readings were taken from Two Kings chapter four, verses 38-44 and John chapter six, verses 1-15 were read by Mr Ewart and the organist was Janet Coyle. During the service Mrs EwartRober­ts baptised Katie Isobel, the baby daughter of Debbie and John McGregor of West Banchory. Services are held each Sunday at 9.45am.

Loch Leven NNR The Young Scot guided cycle will leave the office at The Pier, Kinross tomorrow (Saturday, August 4) at 11am. It is a free event but booking is essential.
