Perth sailors in fight for top position

-

Perth Sailing Club’s PC Solutions series continued at pace as members battled the waves for top spot this week.

Sailors were faced with a 15 knot constantly changing gusting wind from west to east and on occasion southerly.

Four boats took part in the races with all competitors making a clean start in the opener.

The wind dropped on the first leg but Andrew Porteous seized an early lead followed by Bob Watson and Jim Galloway.

Third-placed James Curley capsized but recovered to reclaim his position.

At the line, it was Porteous who claimed first place with Watson and Galloway navigating the course with ease to take second.

The fourth race in the PC Solutions series then continued after a short break.

And there was a familiar look to the finishing standings as Porteous recovered from a late start to cross the line first.

The Enterprise of Watson and Galloway sailed home close behind with Curley only a further second back.

In the last races of the series, on Sunday, there was a slight delay to the start due to marker buoys being deployed.

And the local tourist boat required escorting through the fleet before action could continue.

When it was clear, Jacob McCauley took an early lead followed by Watson and Galloway.

Porteous quickly gained an advantage on the other boats, however, which he maintained throughout to finish first.

Cadet Ivan Kossko, sailing in the Laser Radial, put in a sterling performance to take third.

The final races of the series witnessed Curley make an excellent start on the shortened course.

Close racing over the next two laps led to the lead changing hands on numerous occasions.

But again Porteous soon took charge on the third round as sailors battled with dying wind conditions. McCauley finished in second place.

Perth Sailing Club wishes to thank PC Solutions of Perth for their sponsorship of the series.
