Anger at traps laid for cyclists Warning as lives are being put in danger

- Douglas Dickie

Cyclists lives are being put at risk by someone setting “traps”on a popular Perth track.

Users of the Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park are at their wits’ end after once again having to clear branches deliberately pulled across the track near the top of the hill.

Now, the Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park Users Group has warned the person or persons responsible that their actions could end up causing serious harm - especially to the young children who regularly cycle on the track.

David Wood, from the group committee, said: “It’s probably been going on for two-and-half or three years now.

“No one has ever been caught for it. Obviously they are very sneaky.

“I suspect it is one person who has some sort of vendetta.

“A tree fell down over the path a few years ago and we pushed it back up, but someone is ripping off the branches and putting them across the path.

“A friend of mine has had to clear it up four or five times and I did the same on Monday, but whoever is doing it just comes back constantly.

“It’s almost like they are doing it just to annoy us but they don’t realise how dangerous it is.”

Although no accidents have taken place yet, David reckons it could be only a matter of time if the traps continue to be set.

He said: “Thankfully there is nothing I am aware of but a few people have had quite a scare.

“If someone didn’t see it, it could be terrible. The track is

really well used by everyone who comes here.

“We’ve spoken to the police but there’s not a lot they can do unless they catch someone in the act.”

David posted about the situation on the Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park Facebook page last week and even suggested a trailcam to catch the person responsible.

Chief Inspector Ian Scott said: “I would ask all walkers and cyclists to be respectful of other path users in order that everyone can enjoy our amazing countryside in safety.” Kinnoull Hill users Dorothy Cyster and Sandy, Dave Wood, Kirsty Morris and Marian Coburn and Jester
