Show excited in Aberfeldy

-

committee cannot wait for this year’s event With only days to go, preparations are well under way for Aberfeldy Show and Highland Gathering this Friday and Saturday.

There are a good number of entries already forward for the horse and pony classes on Friday and the ground conditions are ideal – not too hard for the horses but firm enough not to be broken up.

On Saturday, there is a strong cattle section and an ever-growing sheep section.

Chairman Roddy Thomson reported that for the fourth successive year, the number of entries in the sheep classes has grown and the standard remains extremely high. The Highland Pony classes look strong too with increased numbers on last year.

Aberfeldy Show hosts a popular and colourful flower show, displays the talents of the ladies of local SWI groups and more recently, a much-acclaimed craft fair and, new for this year, a food fair.

Judging of all sectors begins at 9am and is followed by a full programme of Highland games: dancing, piping, hill race, tug-o’-war, heavyweight events, children’s races and the highly entertaining terrier racing. The funfair is in attendance on both days.

Roddy added there is a wide variety of trade stands and for that thought of nostalgia, a large number of vintage tractors.

There is full catering, a bar on site and free parking.
