Talk on Catalonian independence
Common Weal Perth and Kinross is set to hold a debate on last year’s Catalonian independence referendum.
The talk, entitled“Catalonia reborn: how Catalonia took on the corrupt Spanish state and the legacy of Franco”will be held on Wednesday, September 26 at Perth’s Salutation Hotel at 7pm.
At the evening, audience members and speakers will speak about whether or not they believe the independence referendum was legal and whether future moves for the region to become independent from Spain can happen in the future.
The group also want to look at what lessons can be learned from the referendum in the campaign for Scottish independence.

Some Catalans went to the polls last year MP George Kerevan, who together wrote a book this year called “Catalonia Reborn”.
A spokesperson for the event said: “Why was the 2017 Catalonian independence referendum illegal? Is there a chance the region could become independent? Why Catalonia? What are the reasons behind the fight for independence?
“And importantly, what are the lessons for Scotland?
“Catalonia, an autonomous region of modern Spain, has seen great change, produced world-renowned figures, and plays a huge part in Spain’s economy and history. 2017 saw Catalonia again come under the world’s spotlight as it fought for independence.
“Answering the questions and complications behind the fight for Catalonian independence, journalist, political activist and television presenter Chris Bambery and economist, academic and former SNP MP for East Lothian George Kerevan - authors of ‘Catalonia Reborn’- will offer a guide to the region’s political, historical and cultural issues.”
