Perth and Kinross sweltered in July

It was the hottest July on record in Perth and Kinross, according to PA weatherman Norman Pedgrift.

The month had the hottest daytime maximum temperatur­e averages as well, at a sweltering 23.7°C.

Norman said:“July was quite dry and very warm.

“The temperatur­e average was 17.9°, compared with the long-term average of 15.5°.

“Rainfall was 35mm, compared with the long-term average of 67mm, so about half the average.

“It was the hottest July in the 51-year record. Only on three days did it fail to reach 20°, with the hottest day on the 26th at 29.3°. The daytime maximum reading average was 23.7°, the highest we have had.

“All but 2mm of rainfall came over the second half of the month, mostly in the closing six days.”
