Step back in time at medieval fayre day

Get ready to step back in time as Perth looks to its medieval roots this weekend.

The annual Perth Medieval Fayre will take place across the city centre on Saturday from noon until 5pm.

The free day of events will look at the history of the city, which thrived during medieval times.

Perth was even the focal point of politics and culture during the reign of King James I (1406-1437).

James set up his court in the Fair City and saw the city become a bustling hive of activity during the late medieval period.

However, he and his English wife Joan Beaufort were murdered by political assassins in the Blackfriar­s Monastery, believed to be on the site of the King James pub on Kinnoull Street, which was renamed last year in the Stewart king’s honour.

Residents will be transporte­d back to this time with medieval re-enactments, crafts, puppets and storytelli­ng and Ye Olde Perth Dunk Tank for those who break the law.

The traditiona­l crafting methods on offer will include hand and wheel spinning, loom weaving and live metal casting.

Clandonia will return again this year to provide Scottish tribal music.
