Festival debut is Pride of Perthshire

The stage is set for the first Perthshire Pride this weekend.

Celebratin­g the LGBT community living and working in Perth and Kinross, the festival will take place on Horsecross Plaza on Saturday.

An afternoon packed with live music, local acts and empowering speeches is planned.

A number of local acts, groups, politician­s and church leaders will take part in the festivitie­s.

The event will begin at 1pm with an opening speech by Rev Scott Burton of the Church of Scotland.

Rev Burton has been a vocal supporter of Perthshire’s LGBT community and has had Pride flags and messages displayed outside his church, St Matthew’s on Tay Street.

This will be followed by Perth Amateur Operatics Society and Perth City Operatic Group singing a range of show tunes and a Disney medley plus local performer Molly Macdonald.

Later in the afternoon there will be dance from local street dancers Chris and Cathy, music from Molly McCabe and the Hypocrites and performanc­es from Ad-Lib Theatre Arts.

Speeches will be made by Cllr Willie Wilson and Perthshire North MSP, John Swinney.
