Scrum-thing special on offer at ale fest

-

Last year’s event was a huge success It will be a case of pints and points when Blairgowrie Rugby Club hosts its annual 10-a-side tournament and ale festival this weekend.

This year marks the fourth time the ale festival has dovetailed with the longstanding small-sided competition, which attracts club sides from across the country.

Coupar Angus Pipe Band will kick off Saturday’s action at JJ Coupar Recreation Park at 11.50am before the event itself gets under way at noon.

Host club Blairgowrie RFC will be looking to defend the title they proudly won on home turf last year.

Off the pitch, Charlie Blair Oliphant’s Ardblair Stones are back by popular demand, giving budding local heroes a chance to try lifting huge, specially-made stones – hewn from a local quarry – on to the top of a berry barrel.

Other attractions include a climbing wall, bouncy castles, rugby tots for children, face painting and an air soft range. Live music comes in the form of a brass band and a series of talented solo artists and groups across a string of different genres.

There will also be a well-stocked barbecue and a selection of 24 different ales sourced from Belhaven and Abernyte breweries.
