Stop feeding gulls

-

I live in Burghmuir and over the last few months have become plagued by gulls.

It would appear to me that the real problem is the residents in this area are feeding them.

Whilst I am not against feeding birds in a controlled way, throwing out large pieces of food for gulls to feed on only makes matters worse.

Perhaps people are not aware that gulls not only cause a mess with their droppings, with car paintwork being particularly vulnerable, but are also full of bacteria such as salmonella and E.coli.

In addition I am sure that most people are aware of their aggressive behaviour.

I therefore request that people take a more responsible attitude to this to prevent the position becoming worse.

In addition I also call on the council to take some action in the city and even take a lead from Dundee Council and start a cull.

One other method that could be adopted by the council would be to employ reusable gull-proof bags, which are beak-resistant polypropylene. John Wright, Linton Terrace, Perth up with temporary repairs, far less take decisive measures to ensure the road system does not get into such a mess again.

I strongly suspect both our council offices and our civil service are grossly overstaffed, with far too many promoted posts and far too high salaries throughout. The salaries in local government are so out of control that the mayors of cities earn more than the prime minister.

Our student grandson had a holiday job working for a council down south. He was told one day that his employment would end that week but if he worked a little less hard he could spin it out for another week.

There should be a complete overhaul of local and central government to ensure that the taxpayer is getting value for money.

In local government the best performing councils should be taken as a yardstick and all others regulated accordingly for numbers of councillors and staff and promoted posts.

It should not be possible for councils to appoint more than a certain number of staff with accompanying promoted posts and there should be limits to the numbers of promoted posts for councillors.
