Council waste too much of our money

-

The state of the roads throughout the country, including Perth and Kinross, indicates that our local councils do not have their priorities right.

Perth and Kinross Council continues to plead poverty when residents complain about the parlous state of our streets and roads but it still pursues expensive and unnecessary pet projects costing a great deal of money better spent on essentials.

As a house-owner it would never occur to me to spend thousands on a new extension if the roof leaked, the central heating was on the blink or any other essential repairs were needed. I would not even contemplate building a new extension until all the essentials were attended to and, most importantly, I could pay for the extension without having to borrow money to do it.

Yet all our councils borrow large sums of money all the time and have to make considerable interest payments on top of repaying the loans. That’s not the way a prudent householder proceeds.

A top priority is the state of our roads but Perth and Kinross Council cannot keep George McMillan, Mount Tabor Avenue, Perth
