Almondbank

Church The service last Sunday was conducted by Mr Craig Dobney and his sermon was based on “Do not be afraid”. Carol Duff read the lessons, Alison Hooper was the organist and the flowers were kindly donated by Adeline Nicoll. The church are organising a trip to the matinee performanc­e of the Angus Minstrels on Saturday, November 10. Anyone who would like to attend is asked to add their name to the list at the back of the church by Sunday, August 12. Summer Fete The annual summer fete and duck race will be held this Saturday, August 11, from noon to 2pm in the church grounds. There will be a barbecue and all the usual stalls. Strawberry teas served in the church hall. Donations for stalls would be gratefully received in the church from 2pm until 4pm today (Friday, August 10).

Alyth

Church Morning worship last Sunday took place at 11am and was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. An evening service took place at 6pm. The service on Sunday this week will be at 11am. Refreshmen­ts will be served after the services during August. The Sunday school is closed during the summer holidays. A creche for children under three is available during every Sunday morning service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Family History Alyth family history project is open on Sunday afternoons, from 2pm to 4pm in Alyth Parish Church. The project includes thousands of photograph­s of people, events, schools, businesses, weddings, children, and views, etc. Admission is free. Bankfoot

Church The service on Sunday will be conducted by the Rev Adrian Lough at the usual time of 11.15am. A joint service is in Luncarty at 10am on August 19. There will be no service in Bankfoot that day. The barbecue is at Active Kids adventure park on Friday, from 6pm for both messy churches and Sunday morning congregati­ons. The next messy church in Luncarty Church Centre on Sunday at 3pm to 5pm, with family tea at 5pm. Free entry, donations welcome. The café is now open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 1pm. Summer country market is on August 18, 11am to 3pm. Come along and enjoy fun time and support Bankfoot Community Centre.

Bendochy

Church Last Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Andy Graham and the readings were given by Graeme McNeill taken from Exodus chapter 16, verses 2 -15 and John chapter six, verses 25-35. The Sunday service at Bendochy church this week is from 10am to 10.45am. Volunteers are required from either Bendochy or the Abbey Church in Coupar Angus to go on a rota to write a brief summary of the Sunday service for the PA’s sister paper the Blairgowri­e Advertiser. Anyone interested in writing such a report every four or five weeks can speak to David Chinn at the Abbey. See the Coupar Angus Abbey Church section for details of the service and intimation­s. Old Tyme Dance The next dance is tonight (Friday) in the Institute from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Music by Steven Carcary. Tickets cost £5 (includes tea and biscuits) available at the door on the night. Proceeds go to local charities. Dunbarney and Forgandenn­y Church Services from this Sunday onwards return to their usual times – 9.30am in Dunbarney and 11am at Forgandenn­y. All welcome. Chatterbox The Chatterbox group resumes on August 16. This group for mums, dads, carers and children aged three and under meets in the church Hall on Thursday mornings during school term time. It costs £1 per family per morning and includes tea and coffee for adults, juice for children and toast for all. Doors open at 9am. Church Morning worship last Sunday was led by the Rev Robert Sloan, with Lynne Mitchell as organist and guitarist. Jim Mackay read from the Gospel of Luke chapter 23, verses 4456. Office bearers on duty were John Alexander, Margaret Alexander and Alec Orr. Flowers were provided by Pauline MacAskill and tea and coffee was served by Donna Lamont and Sandy Duthie. The Guild’s summer get together will now take place in Perth’s North Church hall from 7pm on August 15, not August 16 as previously advertised. Anyone requiring transport can contact Sheena on 01828 627773. The church is holding a book stall at Burrelton’s Market on the Green on August 25. Donations of books can be handed to any church member. Community cafe The community cafe will reopen on September 11, noon to 1.30pm. To join the rota can contact Aileen on 07769 264952. The cafe is open every Tuesday in the church hall. There is no charge made for tea, coffee or home baking. Busy Bees The toddlers’ group runs on Tuesday mornings from 1011.30am. Burrelton and Woodside Youth Club The club is open to all young people from P6 to S6 every Sunday, 6.30-8pm with a programme of different activities every week. Burrelton bowling members welcomed 12 members from the Perth bowling club to play their annual friendly last Saturday. The game was played in the usual friendly manner and Burrelton came out worthy winners with a score of 55 shots to 31. The winning rink was made up of John Findlay, Margaret Moir, Mabel Harrier and Ian Milne.

Walk in Cafe Local woman Karen and her family convey a big “thank you” to all who visited the cafe, bought raffle tickets or donated in any way to their fundraisin­g weekend for the Vine Trust. Over £1000 was realised and the hamper was won by A Walker, from Caputh. Church Rev Peggy Ewart Roberts led worship in Clunie church last Sunday morning, with Janet Coyle organist and Muriel Graham read the lessons. The service will be in Caputh church this Sunday. Coffee Morning/Sale The annual coffee morning and sale of work will be held in Caputh hall on September 8, from 10.30-12.30pm with all the usual sales tables. All money raised will be go to the church funds.

Charity Shop Sheila and Allan Legge, along with Margaret Taylor, are holding the annual charity shop until Saturday this week. Collection­s can be arranged by calling Allan on 01828 628886. Gala Day This year’s gala on June 23, raised a fantastic £4918.67 towards the upkeep of the village hall. The figure also included £333.34 raised from the bucket collection. The hall committee would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s gala day event a great success. Planning is already underway for next year’s gala which will take place on June 22, 2019.

Glenfarg

Open Gardens Eight private gardens in Glenfarg and Duncrievie will open to the public on August 19, between 1.30-4pm, in aid of the local In Bloom group. Tickets (with garden descriptio­ns and map) are priced £7 (under 12s free) and can be purchased at the village hall from 1.15pm. Tickets include garden access and a cream tea.
