Scott determined to maintain form Swifts star is thrilled with his start to the season

- Matthew Gallagher

Jeanfield Swifts midfielder Chris Scott wants the good times to continue after starting the season in style.

The Riverside winger has netted twice and set-up three goals in the club’s opening three games in the East of Scotland League set-up.

Scott, formerly of St Johnstone and Arbroath, is planning to keep up his goal-scoring exploits throughout the course of this campaign.

“I have been really pleased with my start to the season,” the 22-year-old explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“So far I have scored two goals and got three assists in the first three games so I don’t think I could have got off to a better start.

“Overall my target for the whole season is to be more consistent and to try score a goal or get an assist in every game.

“This will be difficult because it’s a competitive league and it’s hard for someone to score or create a goal every week. But this is what I hope to achieve.”

Swifts secured victory in all three of their Qualifying League Cup games to top the group ahead of Bo’ness, Oakley United and Leith Athletic.

Scott added: “In terms of the team, I think the squad we have this season is one of the best in semi-professional football.

“I know it’s early and we have only played three competitive matches but we have comfortably won each of those games and played some really good football as well.

“The players that the manager and coaching staff have brought in this season have added real quality.

“Players such as Connor McLaren, Paul Simpson, Chris Dodd, Allan Leith and Aaron Whitehead have raised our game to another level and it has been brilliant playing alongside them.”

The Perth side hit the road this weekend for an Alex Jack Cup first round clash against Heriot Watt University.

Scott has previous experience of coming up against the students during his time at Dundee University.

“Having played against Heriot Watt before, they will be a tough test for us as they are a hard-working team who like to pass the ball,” he said.

“But hopefully we can let our quality shine through and keep our winning run going.

“There is a lot of excitement at the club for the start of the league season.

“I think the whole team knows that if

Chris Scott is hoping to get on the scoresheet again this weekend we work hard and apply ourselves each week then we should finish in the top three of our league and get promoted.

“With the team we have this season and the coaches that have come in - Logan McConachie and Jack Parr we can be taken to the next level and hopefully win a cup competition as well.”
