Safety fears spark proposal for one way system

-

Safety fears on two Blairgowrie streets have sparked a proposal to extend the town’s one-way traffic system.

Perth and Kinross Council is seeking locals’views on a plan to make Lower Mill Street and Mill Street one-way and install‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions.

The proposal is to extend the existing one-way system from the Wellmeadow along to the junction with Riverside Park so it would run on to join with Allan Street.

The move is as a result of concerns in relation to parking being expressed by residents in the vicinity of the hotspot, as well as by elected representatives for the town.

Chic Haggart, the council’s traffic and network manager, informed local residents, businesses and elected members of the consultation in a letter sent out at the end of July.

The document, seen by the PA, states:“Concerns have been raised by residents and local elected members regarding general road safety issues caused by vehicles parking on Lower Mill Street in Blairgowrie ... [and] that two-way flow of traffic cannot successfully be maintained without removing all on-street parking.

“As a result the council are carrying out a consultation exercise with the local residents regarding the proposal to promote a traffic regulation order to install a one-way road restriction and also‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions on both Lower Mill Street and Mill Street.”

And a spokesperson for the local authority said:“The proposals will be reviewed in line with feedback and updated proposals will be presented to committee in the new year.”

The final date for feedback is August 20, according to the local authority representative.
