Winger reckons he can get even better

Drey Wright against Hibs on Sunday Drey Wright insists his performanc­es will only get better as he gels further with his attacking St Johnstone team-mates.

The summer signing was awarded man of the match in Sunday’s draw against Hibernian and he doesn’t want that to be a one-off.

Winger Wright, previously of Colchester, is on a mission to excite McDiarmid Park fans with his direct style of play and pace down the right flank.

The 23-year-old is enjoying linking up with fellow new additions Tony Watt and Matty Kennedy and reckons they can continue to click.

“The three of us didn’t get a lot of time on the ball against Kilmarnock but when we get into the right areas, we can cause problems,” Wright said.

“The more we play together the better we will get with each other. We linked well together on Sunday.

“I’d like to link up a bit more with Tony directly, which didn’t come off at the weekend.

“I want to excite the fans. It’s nice to have them cheering you on because it gives you the extra little percentage that you need.

“I’m excited for the rest of the season and hopefully I can bring more quality performanc­es.

“The last two seasons I’ve been a first team regular so I want to carry that on. I want to add more goals and assists to my game.

“And just good performanc­es to help the team get into the top six.”

Wright felt that he had a point to prove on Sunday following the Premiershi­p curtain-raising loss against Kilmarnock.

“I wanted a personal reaction from last week where I didn’t feel I was in the game a lot,” Wright explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“Both myself and Matty wanted to be involved and that showed on Sunday.

“We were a lot more aggressive in our approach, got on the ball and caused them problems.

“We needed the reaction for ourselves and for the fans. That showed on Sunday with a good performanc­e.

“We did create chances and got into the right areas. But unfortunat­ely we couldn’t get more than the one goal.

“It opened up in the second half and they got the goal back with their fans getting behind them and making it difficult for us.

“But we still had a lot of chances and Blair has had a few from the edge of the box. There were a
