Bike traps are still appearing on the hill Fears over cyclist’s safety

- Melanie Bonn

Angry residents and users of Kinnoull Hill Forest Park at Corsiehill, Perth cannot believe that the ‘bike trapper’ continues to put logs in the path of cyclists despite concerned members going to the papers, police and Forestry Commission.

On Friday last, the PA reported how cyclists were at risk of injury or even death because someone was putting branches across their route through the popular Perth park.

Users of the Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park have had to hastily clear branches - and even hefty logs - deliberately dragged across the track near the top of the hill.

The Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park Users Group (KWPUG) warned the person or persons responsible that their actions could end up causing serious harm - especially to the young children who regularly cycle on the track.

But the obstacles continue to appear. On Wednesday evening a walker warned of new danger: “Logs have been placed down the middle path, causing dangerous obstructions.

“Please be careful if you’re heading up that path. And to the person doing this - you’re a coward, man up and just say if you’ve got an problem with cyclists.”

KHWP committee member David Wood said yesterday: “On the trail just up from where the landrover chassis is, this is one of the regular spots that have been targeted.

“It is particularly dangerous as it is on a corner after a fairly steep section.

“I suspect it is one person who has some sort of vendetta, but we now have Forestry Commission and police onboard,” he continued.

But recent strengthening in data protection laws means they’ve been warned against trying to film the culprit at work in what is a public space. User group members are concerned the trail keeps getting deliberately blocked
