Soldiers from the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS) will be parading through the Fair City on Sunday, September 16 as part of a national homecoming celebration following the tour.

The parade will begin on Mill Street at 11am, with the soldiers accompanied by pipes and drums, and the regiment’s mascot Cruachan IV.

They will travel through Kinnoull Street, South Street, St John Street and George Street, before arriving for a reception at Perth Concert Hall at noon.

During the tour of Iraq, 3 SCOTS worked alongside international troops from the USA, Denmark, Norway and France to train and mentor Iraqi security forces to help them respond to Islamic State threats.

Some of the training included learning to counter improvised explosive devices, infantry skills, combat medical techniques and engineering skills.

However, during the tour they were also able to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund and host a Highland games, as well as taking part in other activities hosted by the other nations.

On return, before their homecoming parade in Perth, the soldiers will be cycling the North Coast 500 and wild camping over five days to raise money for Cash For Kids, which helps to improve the lives of disadvantaged children.
