Luke Graham MP has been mucking in at a local farm.
Mr Graham, who represents Ochil and South Perthshire, visited David Lawrie at Cuthill Towers Farm in Kinross, where he spent the day feeding cattle, repairing fences and milking 200 Ayrshire cows.
He said: “It was great to get stuck in. When eating your porridge or cereal you often forget the care and hard work that goes in to getting affordable, quality milk to our tables.
“David’s family have farmed here since the 1950s, and it was good to see how the farm had expanded and incorporated new technology to face the challenges of the changing marketplace.
“We need to encourage more young people to consider farming and agricultural industries as innovative career choices.
“With the 21st Luke Graham MP with David Lawrie
century push towards entrepreneurialism, I think it is good to remind people that you can build a business developing and caring for the land, as much as you can sitting in an office in a city.”
Mr Lawrie is also chairman of Young Farmers (Scotland) and discussed the role of young farmers and the challenges
they face at length with Mr Graham.
He said: “It was great to get Luke to come along and see what we are doing here.
“He got some true hands on experience, covered in cow poo and everything.
“We talked about the challenges farmers will be facing due to the weather and hopefully those messages will be relayed.”
