Relegation cloud in the air for Doo’cot

-

Perth Doo’cot’s relegation fears continue to linger following a Saturday defeat away at Arbroath.

The hosts, who were able to field a strengthened team, amassed a huge total of 265 for seven in their 45 overs.

That score was boosted by 92 from Scotland youth international Bryce Carnegie with pro Rizwan Akbar pick of the Perth bowlers with 2-29.

In response, Fair City batsmen pieced together a performance they can be proud of with a season-best total of 251-8 in their innings.

Tyler Ridder scored a clever 80 with support from Asif Naeem, Akbar, Trevor Brown and Jack and Stuart McCreanor.

Results elsewhere went Perth’s way and one win in the remaining two matches will be enough.

Four sides remain in trouble and, therefore, it’s set to be a nervous fortnight for some.

On Sunday, the first squad were due to play Leith in the CS Challenge Cup semi-final but the game was rained off. As the final is this Sunday, the only option was for Cricket Scotland to draw lots in their office.

Unfortunately for Perth it was Leith who progressed to the final.

The second XI, meanwhile, maintained their positive run of wins with a seven wicket victory against Dundee High School at Doo’cot.

The visitors were bowled out for 80 with all home bowlers contributing.

And then the runs were scored in only 17 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Four of the Perth side were aged under-15 and showed signs of promise for the coming seasons.

This Saturday Meigle are the first team’s visitors to Doo’cot while the second XI travel to St Andrews to take on league leaders Kinloch.

Results: PDCC 1st XI 251-8 (T Ridder 80, A Naeem 39) lost to Arbroath XI 265-7 (B Carnegie 92, M Rizwan Akbar 2-29) by 14 runs.

PDCC 2nd XI 82-3 (J Calder 26, G Anderson 23, Innes Chalmers 18no) bt DHSFP XI 80 (J Emslie 2-15, N Ahuja 2-16) by seven wickets.
