Quarter final date with ‘Well in the Scottish Cup

- Matthew Gallagher

St Johnstone Women have been drawn to play Motherwell in the quarter final of the SSE Scottish Cup.

The McDiarmid Park side came out of the hat alongside their Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 rivals on Tuesday afternoon.

Saints will welcome the current league leaders to Perth on Sunday, September 16.

Head coach Jason McCrindle watched his players navigate into the last eight at the weekend with a 3-2 win against East Fife.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be in the last eight of the Scottish Cup for what is now the third year running,”he said.

“I’m an old cup romantic and I love the excitement that it can bring.

“Along with the excitement of the cup, it’s the test it delivers when you are faced with teams out with our league.

“East Fife provided us with exactly that sort of test on Sunday and it showed why they are sitting top of their league.

“We scored three very good goals on what was a tough afternoon.

“Without playing as well as we could have, we did enough to get through.

“I would have to say that we have played better and lost this season.

“Above all, though, we are pleased to progress and that is one of our targets for the season reached.”

Saints are back on league duty this weekend with a home game against Central Girls.

The kick-off at McDiarmid Park is 4pm.
