Pupils heartbroken after garden is wrecked

-

Children and staff at a Perthshire primary school were left shocked after returning from their summer holidays to discover that their community garden had been vandalised.

Officers from Police Scotland have appealed for information in a bid to trace those behind the damage at Blackford Primary School.

Some of the garden’s plants have been damaged and shelving has been destroyed.

And it’s also believed that the culprits have scaled both the Stirling Street school itself and its outdoor classroom, sending tiles smashing into the playground below.

Headteacher Margaret McMillan speculated :“A small minority”of local teenagers may have been behind the mindless acts.”

She said:“Most of the young people in the local area know how much work the children, staff and volunteers put into the garden and use the playground responsibly.

“It is very disappointing that a few have been so inconsiderate, putting themselves and others at risk.”

Mrs McMillan confirmed the damage had been reported to the police and urged anyone with any information to contact the nationwide force.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:“Anyone with any information that may be useful should contact our Tayside Division on 101 or any police officer, quoting the crime reference number CR/19268/18.” Blackford pupils have been left upset by the vandalism
