-

More than 520 homes and business in a Perthshire village have now been connected to high-speed fibre broadband.

Following a £428 million grant from Digital Scotland’s superfast broadband programme, people living and working in Glenfarg are now able to access fibre broadband.

Councillor Kathleen Baird, vice-convener of environment and infrastructure committee at Perth and Kinross Council, and representative for Almond and Earn, said:“It’s fantastic to see an increasing number of communities in Perth and Kinross have access to superfast fibre broadband.

“Whether you have a small business or are just keeping in touch with friends, having access to high speed fibre broadband is extremely beneficial.”

The new fibre broadband means people in Glenfarg can now get fast and reliable connections at speeds of up to 80Mb per second.

Sara Budge, programme director for Digital Scotland, added:“It’s fantastic news that the programme has been able to benefit residents and businesses in and around Glenfarg.

“I would like to thank Councillor Kathleen Baird for joining us to celebrate fibre broadband availability in the area and I am glad to see that it has been able to benefit the local community.”

Further areas of Perth and Kinross are set to benefit from this fund, including parts of Blair Atholl, Bridge of Earn, Inchmichael, Little Dunkeld, Caputh, Glenalmond, Kinrossie and Spittalfield.
