LGBT people should be the focus of Pride Many thanks to the kind helpers who came to aid of my husband

Dear sir, I attended the recent – fantastic – Perthshire Pride and thoroughly enjoyed its array of celebratory musical performances and thoughtful speeches, including Rev Burton’s historic address.

Unlike many big city pride events, this one was refreshingly grass-roots and non-commercial. Local press coverage of Perthshire Pride has been positive with lots of colourful pictures.

However, I think the focus on Rev Burton’s speech, and the subsequent backlash against him, while important, has obscured the main story – LGBT people.

I appreciate Rev Burton’s ‘apology’ and his commitment to support the LGBT community as a matter of faith and justice.

But we LGBT people are more than capable of speaking for ourselves and, in recent decades, as a result of our tenacious refusal to go away or remain invisible, have collectively brought about huge legal and social changes.

Many of us remember the bad old days but younger LGBT people, who have grown up in a less homophobic society, continue to experience prejudice and hostility.

All sorts of people came together at Perthshire Pride. No one has asked what it meant to us. Jane Andrew, Ardchoille House, Perth Dear Sir, Are we not fortunate to be surrounded by those lovely, small “albatrosses”, as they

Two separate species living side by side – the herring gull and the black back gull.

It’s great the council leave all the bin bags out so that these wonderful creatures can have the food leftovers others have so kindly left out for their convenience.

People could go that step further and put all their daily leftovers on their window ledges and those “protected by law” webbed footed wonders can pick it all off at will! All things bright and beautiful etc. Arthur Crabtree, South Street, Perth Dear Sir, I would like to thank everyone who helped my husband when he collapsed outside Waterstones Perth, on Friday, August 10.

Especially the young man and his mother who was running late for an appointment but managed to contact me and to the woman with the wee girl who kept an eye out for the ambulance.

There are a lot of good people out there.

My husband has spent a few days in hospital and had some procedures.

He is now back home recovering.

Many thanks. Name and address supplied
