Mums get to stay with their sick kids

-

Seven call outs in the past week have seen Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) respond to emergencies from Highland Perthshire to the isle of Arran.

Two mothers were able to fly to hospital with their sick children.

The helicopter flew to Arran to airlift a 10-year-old boy on an urgent transfer to hospital at Glasgow.

The boy’s mum was able to accompany him to Glasgow Heliport where an ambulance took them the remainder of the journey.

SCAA also reduced another potential road journey of hours to just minutes when they flew to Lochgilphead where a seriously ill toddler needed urgent treatment.

The little boy was flown with his mother to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital at Glasgow and the crew gifted him a SCAA teddy for comfort.

Closer to home, SCAA paramedics were quickly on the scene to help with a man who suffered a stroke at a Highland Perthshire caravan park.

They assisted land ambulance colleagues before the patient was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary by road.

SCAA paramedics also deployed the charity’s rapid response vehicle to quickly get to the scene of a cardiac emergency at a hotel in Perth.

The medics worked with land crew colleagues before the patient was taken by ambulance to Perth Royal Infirmary.

A plucky team from Savills in Perth took on the taxing trials of the Lanrick Challenge at Doune earlier this month and raised a tremendous £1,045.50 for SCAA.

The fundraiser was part of the company’s charity of the year support for the air ambulance.

The team at Pitlochry Station Bookshop has donated another £300 to SCAA bringing their total support to date for the helicopter heroes to a page-turning £29,630.

Thanks also to the lady who donated £10 at Aberfeldy Highland Games.

Locally placed SCAA collecting cans emptying out their muchappreciated contents this week include those from: Lamb & Gardiner, Errol £30.22; Green Welly Stop, Tyndrum £174.86; Cairn O’Mhor cafe, Errol £28.89; Dunked Smoked Salmon £65.96 and the Horn Restaurant, Errol £47.38.

Look out for SCAA volunteers at the Highland Perthshire Marathon at Aberfeldy on Saturday, September 1.

SCAA will be manning the watering stop at Karelia House for thirsty runners on the half and full marathon challenge as the helicopter air ambulance is one of the beneficiary charities of this year’s event.

Travellers passing through Edinburgh Airport on Saturday, September 8, will also see SCAA volunteers in action.

The charity is carrying out another collection as part of its on-going support partnership with Edinburgh Airport.

And those returning from holiday to faraway lands are able to support the helicopter air ambulance by donating their leftover foreign currency just before they exit the baggage reclaim area.
