Two months of inconvenience Replacement buses on a number of key lines

- Rachel Clark

Rail commuters travelling in and out of Perth are to face two months of disruption.

Starting this weekend, replacement buses will be laid on for those wishing to travel in and out of Perthshire’s railway stations to Glasgow, Inverness, Dundee, Falkirk and Aberdeen.

Due to electrification works on the rail line between Perth and Falkirk, a number of services will be disrupted, including some no longer calling at Perth, and others being replaced with a bus.

This will be the case for eight Sundays, starting on Sunday, September 2.

Trains travelling from Glasgow to Aberdeen will not call at Perth during these works, as the trains are to be diverted through Fife instead. This includes trains to Dundee. Likewise, services from Glasgow to Inverness will not call in at Gleneagles or Perth railway stations.

However, passengers starting their journey to Inverness from Perth will be able to catch a train, and it will continue to call at the regular stations.

And services between Perth and Falkirk High will also be hit with replacement buses.

Commuters wanting to travel on these services will instead need to catch a replacement bus from the railway station.

ScotRail has warned the disruption may also affect journey times, adding replacement buses may arrive and depart from the railway stations earlier or later than previous advertised.

A spokesperson for ScotRail said: “For services between Aberdeen and Glasgow, which usually run via Perth, we’re diverting trains via Fife.

“Customers between Falkirk Trains to key routes in and out of Perth Railway Station will be replaced by buses for eight weekends

and Dundee will need to catch a replacement bus.

“On the Inverness route, we’ll be diverting one service via Fife and the rest will be replaced by buses between Perth and Falkirk.

“We’ll also run buses between Perth and Glasgow.

“We’re encouraging customers to plan their journeys in advance on our website or free app, and to leave extra time for travel.”

This will affect most of Perthshire’s railway stations, including Perth, Gleneagles and Invergowrie.

The disruption will be on September 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, as well as October 7, 14 and 21.
