A grand sum for club

Alex McClintock of Andy’s Man Club receives a £1000 charity cheque from Hugh MacMaster (left) and Jimmy Turriff of A&B Taxis, who sponsored the annual Craigie Hill Golf Club charity day. A Perth charity group set up to encourage men to talk over mental health issues has been boosted by a £1000 charity cheque.

The fast-expanding Andy’s Man Club is attracting over 30 people to their Monday evening meetings at McDiarmid Park.

Local club founders and prison officers Alex McClintock and Adam Allison established it within the Edinburgh Road top-security jail and at St Johnstone’s stadium in September last year.

They have enjoyed backing from Fair City firm A&B Taxis and this week secured a £1000 donation following the annual charity fundraiser organised by Hugh MacMaster at Craigie Hill Golf Club, which has generated more than £85,000 for local causes over the past 19 years.

PE instructor and group facilitator Andy, who is preparing to join a nine-strong team tackling Kilimanjaro next month, said:“It is fantastic that the charity is being supported so generously by the guys at A&B Taxis and Craigie Hill, along with Saints in the Community.”

Jimmy Turriff, a director with A&B Taxis, said:“Alex and Adam give up their own time for Andy’s Man Club and as a local business we are delighted to support their work, which is encouraging us to view mental health in the same way we regard our physical health.”
