A climber was injured when he fell 10 metres down a sheer cliff in Dunkeld on Wednesday, but was safely recovered by Tayside Mountain Rescue Team.

The incident at Polney Crag at 11.45am was call-out number 30 of the year for Tayside MRT.

The full team of volunteers were mustered and went to the rescue of the 36-year-old male who was part of a climbing party that had been taking part in roped activities to tackle the dramatic Polney Crag.

The man’s injuries were non-life threatening and he was transported to Ninewells hospital in Dundee.

Stuart Johnstone, team leader of TMRT said that 2018 was turning out to be an average year for incidents, with the team expecting to answer about 55 SOS calls from people in trouble on the hills by the end of the year.

Also on Wednesday, the charity announced that following a break in to the base unit in Aberfeldy, Tayside Mountain Rescue Team had been generously helped by the Enchanted Forest, which has donated money to replace items stolen from the lock-up.

The Enchanted Forest Community Trust, which puts on the annual outdoor light spectacular near Pitlochry, has made an undisclosed donation which will go towards replacing the emergency medicine and other items which were taken when TMRT’s Dunkeld Road storage unit was burgled on August 23.

Tayside Mountain Rescue was one of the chosen charities supported by the trust during the Enchanted Forest’s October run in 2017.

Upon hearing about the theft and the impact it had on the rescue team’s ability to continue their work in the short term, the Enchanted Forest Community Trust decided to offer their help.

“Tayside Mountain Rescue, a team of volunteers who selflessly dedicate themselves to rescuing people who get into trouble on the Scottish hills, has been heartened by the Enchanted Forest Trust’s generosity and the support of the wider community in the wake of the break-in which has come at a time when the rescue team is exceptionally busy,” said Stuart.

“Their support will also help us to further enhance the security at our Dunkeld Road storage unit.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Enchanted Forest and the local community for being so supportive.” Climber fell 10m at Polney Crag, Dunkeld
