Award would top great year for Charlie
The cream of Scottish sport will again be recognised at the Sunday Mail and sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards in December.
And Perthshire skiing sensation Charlie Guest could be in the running after another year to remember on the slopes.
Guest was part of Team GB at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games and while she missed out on a medal she was crowned national slalom champion at the British Alpine Ski Championships capping a remarkable return from serious injury.
The British number one slalom skier broke her back while training in Sweden in 2014.
She endured a 155-mile journey to hospital in Ostersund on a stretcher before returning to the Scotland for treatment, where she received extensive medical support, physio and physical conditioning.
She said: “I have learned so much from everyone that has helped me back to the top of competitive racing, skills and knowledge that will stick with me for the rest of my life. The journey in sport is never easy and the path is certainly bumpy, but the dedication from the sportscotland institute of sport has really made my return to sport much more manageable.”
Now in its 12th year, the annual event which is sponsored by sportscotland – the national agency for sport – celebrates excellence throughout Scottish sport by awarding our sportsmen, women, teams and volunteers for their outstanding achievements in 2018.
And with Charlie capping a remarkable year with gold at the British Championships and some strong performances in Pyeongchang, she could do the area proud once again at the Sunday Mail and sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards later this year.
Chair of sportscotland, Mel Young, said: “In communities across the country the transformative power of sport is in evidence on a daily basis, not least through our network of 192 community sport hubs and the national Active Schools programme, which are creating real opportunities for people of all ages to become involved in sport.
“The Scottish Sport Awards will shine a light on the successes of the past year, from the tireless work of volunteers and coaches in local communities right through to the performance of Scotland’s top athletes and sports stars on the global stage.”
