team at Giraffe Trading can’t wait for this year’s event The Great Perthshire Picnic is a month-long celebration of the region’s finest suppliers, producers, chefs and eateries - something we aren’t short of.

Local businesses will be cooking up a storm this September, bringing the tastes and delights of Perth and Kinross alive as part of the Great Perthshire Picnic.

The picnic is a month-long celebration of the best food and drink the region has to offer, with over 60 events scheduled throughout September, championing the best local produce and home-grown talent from across the region.

Perthshire boasts some of Scotland’s best restaurants, chefs and artisan producers. There is a strong commitment to quality, sourcing locally and seasonally. Award-winning pies, AA Rosette standard chefs, on-trend gin bars and proper old fashioned home-baking all go into making Perthshire one of the tastiest places you can visit.

Local businesses have joined together to create a menu of events celebrating the rich bounty that the region has to offer from new menu launches, wine v beer, cheese tastings, gin festivals and much, much more.

This year’s launch event takes place alongside the Perth Farmer’s Market on Saturday, September 1 and will feature a host of street food, live music and demonstrations.

Scotland’s national chef, Gary McLean will be officially kicking off the 2018 Great Perthshire Picnic at noon.

Following that, Gary is doing a cooking demonstration where he will be preparing tasty meals with produce from local suppliers at the Perth Farmers’ Market. Pop on down to King Edward Street and catch the action.

Events take place across the whole of September and organisers are certain there is something for everyone within the programme.

Highlights include a pakora masterclass by Praveen from Tabla, a week long mini food festival in Comrie and a really exciting collaboration fundraising dinner where we see the chefs from 63 Tay Street, The North Port, Giraffe Trading and Horsecross Arts coming together under the roof of Perth’s museum to prepare a seven-course dinner using the finest Perthshire ingredients – a truly one-off experience not to be missed.

This entire food festival is coordinated and organised by the team at Giraffe Trading, a social enterprise and charity in Perth.

They believe everyone deserves the right to work and help people on the autistic spectrum, learning disabilities and mental ill health. The festival acts as a fundraiser for them and as a way to further their social aims. For more on them visit www.checkingiraffe.uk

Support is also coming from around the region, with ‘A wild weekend in Perthshire’ by the Crieff Food Company, Highland Safari’s Café in Aberfeldy, a celebration of fudge in Kenmore with the Taymouth Courtyard, a bounty of foodie fun at Cultybraggan POW Camp outside Comrie and a Mad Hatter afternoon tea party at Perth College, to name but a few.

Gareth Ruddock, Giraffe Trading CEO, is leading the project and says he’s been blown away by the level of support the idea has received locally: “Perth and Kinross is rightly famed for its food and drink producers. We have award-winning restaurateurs, chocolatiers, distilleries, breweries and produce right on our doorstep, so an event to celebrate this has a huge amount of talent to
