Road crash help

-

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) flew to the scene of a fatal road traffic accident near Pitlochry at the weekend and helped treat an injured motorcyclist before accompanying him in a land ambulance to Ninewells Hospital.

Earlier that day, SCAA paramedics in the rapid response vehicle attended another road traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a car on the A93 near Scone.

They worked alongside land crew colleagues and Tayside Trauma Team before the injured motorcyclist was taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance.

A teenage boy was airlifted from the Ochil hills near Tillicoultry after being injured in a fall at the weekend.

The boy sustained ankle injuries while out hillwalking and he was flown to Ninewells Hospital from the remote and inaccessible hillside for further treatment.

In the past week SCAA has also airlifted two children from Oban to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital at Glasgow for urgent medical care in separate emergencies.

The air ambulance was also called to undertake an urgent medical transfer of a woman from Campbelltown for hospital care at Glasgow.

SCAA also flew to a multi-vehicle collision near Tyndrum in response to a request for air support from the scene where a casualty was trapped in the wreckage.

They were stood down – not required – after arrival at the scene.

The annual Rattray Art Festival has been a long-standing supporter of SCAA, with artists donating a percentage of their sales to the airborne life-savers.

This year the event raised a tremendous £1834.81 for SCAA, bringing the total support from the festival to £6516.99.

Thanks also to StrathardleVintage Vehicle Club which drove home a superb £2000 for at their charity tractor run. Further donations at the cheque presentation raised an additional £122.47.

Members of St Fillans Carpet Bowling Club donated £320 from club funds to the SCAA.

Garden party goers helped SCAA flourish through a collection at the event staged by a Perth woman and raised £762.

Many families have chosen to support SCAA through donations in memory of loved ones.

A recent funeral collection at Perth Crematorium raised £449.91 in memory of a local man, while a local woman donated £500 raised in lieu of presents from friends and family for her 80th birthday.

Collecting cans being emptied this week include: John Gilmour Newsagents in Cupar £16.45 and Fossoway Stores at Crook of Devon £26.10.

Look out for SCAA volunteers at the Highland Perthshire Marathon at Aberfeldy this Saturday, September 1.

SCAA will be manning the watering stop at Karelia House for thirsty runners as the charity is one of the beneficiary charities of this year’s event.

Travellers passing through Edinburgh Airport on Saturday, September 8, will also see SCAA volunteers in action.

And those returning from holiday can support us by donating their leftover foreign currency.
