Post Office Ltd has confirmed its services in the Letham area will be restored at the end of this month.

Since the post office on Rannoch Road shut down earlier this year, residents and councillors alike have been pushing to get the services re-instated.

This also included the removal of the branch’s ATM, the only one in Perth to accept Post Office account cards.

Now, a new post office will be opened on Thursday, September 27 in the Best One convenience store on the nearby Jeanfield Road.

Councillor John Rebbeck, who represents the Letham and Jeanfield areas at Perth and Kinross Council, said:“This is a very welcome development which is a result of a lot of behind the scenes activity in which I am glad to have contributed and I am thankful to others who also helped secure this outcome.

“Like many residents, I welcome the new post office facilities at the Best One shop on Jeanfield Road and I wish the staff and management well as they deliver this essential service.

“Nevertheless, I still have concerns that some elderly and or less mobile members of our community may find the greater distance involved a disadvantage.

“But of most concern, is the still outstanding need for an appropriate cash machine which can be used by Post Office account holders, an issue which must be resolved soon.”
