New traffic lights at busy road

-

Cllr Willie Wilson at the Glasgow Road junction New traffic lights are to be brought in to a major Perth road.

As part of the new housing development at Cherrybank by Persimmon Homes, new lights are to be installed on the Glasgow Road.

They will be at the junction with Oakbank Place and Necessity Brae.

Work starts on Monday, September 10, but motorists could face disruption for up to three months.

During the works no traffic will be able to park or load on Glasgow Road from 50m east of Necessity Brae to a point 50m west of its junction with Oakbank Place.

There will be similar restrictions on Necessity Brae with its junction with the A93 Glasgow Road to its junction with Low Road.

Councillor Willie Wilson, who represents the Cherrybank area at Perth and Kinross Council, said:“I have been waiting a long time for these traffic lights to be installed.

“I wrote to local residents a few months ago advising them in advance the work would take place.

“I understand the traffic order will suspend loading and parking on the Glasgow Road, therefore it will be necessary for local residents to find alternative places to park.”

The Lib Dem representative continued:“Persimmon have been taking some time to prepare for this work to be undertaken and the council through the planning service and roads service and public transport unit have been supporting this process commendably.

“I hope that the traffic lights will ease traffic flows on the Glasgow Road and also make some contribution to slowing down traffic at certain times.

“Traffic speeds on the Glasgow Road are an issue and we are also looking at the possibility of installing speed advice signs on another section of the Glasgow Road.

“This work is still ongoing and I hope we can make progress on this in the not too distant future.”

Councillor Wilson added that he has been told pedestrian and emergency access to premises on Glasgow Road and Necessity Brae will be maintained throughout the 12 weeks of roadworks.
