Cancer ordeal over for Lily

- Melanie Bonn

Lily with her family Perth dancer Lily Douglas has rung the bell for the end of her cancer treatment.

Her mum Jane shared the good news on Monday that Lily (10) had been pronounced clear of her stage four Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that attacked her bones and required a horrendous treatment regime.

Lily, who started back at St John’s Primary in August, underwent 118 intensive courses of chemo, a major operation to remove her shoulder blade and scores of intrusive procedures.

She also travelled to Florida for proton treatment.

In June doctors told the family Lily was finally cancer-free but there were still some checks to carry out before she could ring the bell

That moment finally arrived on Monday at Ninewells Hospital.

Mum Jane wrote on Facebook: “Well she’s done it - 493 days after being diagnosed with a stage four rare bone cancer, Lily has finally rung the end of treatment bell.

“Delighted is an understatement. Granny and grandad came to hospital to see her, such a lovely day.”

The post was acknowledged by around 1200 people and messages of support and joy poured in.

Her Inspire dance school coach Brooke Robertson, posted: “I’m actually crying. So so happy. Wishing you health and happiness for a positive future. Well done Lily.”
