Cycling pair’s Great effort
A father and son duo from Auchterarder have successfully cycled the Great Glen Way in memory of a friend.
Derek Dobbins (57) and his son Craig (18) decided to take on the challenge to cycle the 76 miles from Fort William to Inverness through Neptune’s Staircase.
The pair have raised almost £5000 of sponsorship, and are just £60 short of their target.
Derek, who worked designing and selling kitchens, wanted to raise funds for Marie Curie in memory of Jock Thomson, his project manager and work colleague for 30 years who received care and support in the charity’s Edinburgh hospice, where he passed away.
“We did our cycle in memory of my good friend and colleague Jock,” explained Derek.“Craig and I also wanted to recognise the work done at Marie Curie to support and take care of Jock and his family.‘‘ Craig Dobbins (left) with his dad Derek
They set of on June 23 to ride from Fort William to Inverness.
Derek added:“We knew that 76 miles and 6092 ft of climbing would be challenging. There was a tremendous feeling of achievement and pride when we arrived at Inverness Castle. Six hours and twelve minutes on road – not bad. I’m sure Jock would have been chuffed.”
“We are about to reach our
target of £5000. Thank you to family and friends, colleagues, clients and suppliers for their incredible support.”
We noticed Derek and Craig’s actual total as of yesterday was £4931 - just £69 short of their £5000 fundraising target. If you would like to support them, you can donate online at: https:// www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ cycle-for-marie-curie.
