Religious rep needed for council committee
A religious representative is needed to sit on a key council committee.
Perth and Kinross Council is on the look-out for a new religious representative to sit on its lifelong learning committee, which decides on education issues.
As the committee already has two representatives from the Church of Scotland and the Roman Catholic Church, they are seeking someone from a different religious background.
Those wanting to apply for the position must send a nominee, a statement from their denominational body, a note of persons who are members of the church within the Perth and Kinross area, the number of people worshipping there, and any further information their church or denominational body wants to include.
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said:“In the selection of the third person, the legislation specifies that the local authority shall have regard (taking account of the representation of the Roman Catholic Church and Church of Scotland) to the comparative strength within the area of all the churches and denominational bodies having duly constituted charges or other appointed places of worship therein.
“The lifelong learning committee comprises elected members of Perth and Kinross Council, teacher representatives, parent representatives and members of the Perth and Kinross youth forum.
“In terms of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, the committee also comprises three people representing church interests.
“The non-council members are entitled to participate, and in case of the religious representatives vote, on business being considered by the committee which is deemed to be advising the authority on any matter relating to the discharge of their functions as an education authority, or discharging any of those functions of the authority on their behalf.”
Nominations can be handed into the head of democratic services on CommitteeElections@pkc.gov.uk by Friday, September 28 at 5pm.
