Cup, Alyth 6, Vale 0. The team: MacDonald,Gilies,Taylor, Tritton,Walker, McLauchlan, Smillie,Coleman, Millar, Morrison, McDougall, Berry, Stewart, Clark Hall. Vale’s cup run didn’t get very far with a comprehensive defeat away to Alyth. In a pretty even first half, Vale competed well but found themselves two goals down, the first in the 20th minute was a mistake at the back with the second being hotly disputed and a Vale player sent off for deliberate hand ball in the box - in truth an attempted headed clearance that hit a hand but not the way the ref seen it, the penalty was dispatched easily. Vale had to make changes with Berry, replacing the injured McLauchlan quickly followed by McDougall and Smillie also injured by Clark and Stewart. Alyth scored a third with a good shot before they got the fourth from an offside position, another two followed before the end as Vale’s 10 players found it hard going against a good team. A heavy defeat but Vale were competing well and there was nothing in the game prior to the sending off. The whole squad battled well and kept going until the end, indeed forcing corner after corner in the last few minutes. Vale were well served by the defenders, Millar and Coleman in midfield and Morrison up front. Man of the match Kyle Walker. This week Vale have no game due to the Highland games and the following week are at home to Wolfhill in a league game. Arthritis Awareness in Atholl Resumed meetings on the first Monday of September. After a short AGM chaired by Hugh Mackintosh when the committee was re-elected and the accounts passed, Helen Stewart, accompanied by her father Eddie, gave a interesting account of how she started up Badvo, Pitlochry’s gin distillery. As a student Helen had worked at Edradour Distillery and became fascinated by the distilling process. At the family farm at Knockbarrie, all the necessary ingredients were to hand, buildings, spring water, juniper bushes and other botanicals so she went ahead and now has a productive distillery, where she bottles and labels and markets her very popular product. Chairman Hugh Mackintosh gave the vote of thanks and wished Helen well in her enterprise.
